Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidenced based science. Behavior interventions and strategies are created for families based on peer reviewed, evidence based research and studies, in current Applied Behavior Analysis literature and journals. Why is the science of Behavior utilized by all major cooperations and marketing firms? Because it works! We can also apply these simple strategies in our home and daily life to achieve the home and family life we crave, while also setting our children up to become resilient and successful!
The goal of Heidi Perry Behavior Therapy is to help families resolve behavior issues, including attention, anxiety, melt-downs, difficulty with transitions, disruptive behavior, social skills, following directions, completing routines, and more. While also increasing mindfulness, and ultimately helping establish a home and family where each individual feels seen, connected and supported. Allowing you and your family the ability to focus on sharing and appreciating the big and small special moments that make up our lives.
There is an abundance of information on parenting available today in best selling books, from self-described "Parenting Coaches" and social media influencers. It is important that methods used in your family home have been shown to be effective in current research, or as unfortunately often the case, they can have detrimental and harmful outcomes. Often families end up overwhelmed by the plethora of opposing parent strategies out there, and end up oscillating back and forth between different methods only to find their issues getting worse, not better. The decades of research behind behavior strategies takes the guesswork out of parenting. We can confidently parent and see positive results quickly follow.
Heidi Perry’s approach to Behavior Therapy focuses on parent training. Why? Because that is how parents become empowered.
In a typical Behavior Therapy or mental health setting, the therapist will work with your child on a weekly basis. Why is this a problem? As your child’s therapist I can come and work and play with your child and see a big change in their behavior while I’m present. But what happens when the therapist leaves? How does a therapist's ability to get your child to do his homework melt-down free and complete daily routines help you when they are gone. It doesn’t.
That’s why with the traditional model so many families end up relying on their therapists for years. I’ve seen therapist relied upon so much that they almost become an extra family member. My goal is that you are successful with out me.
I want to support you in achieving a calm, peaceful, successful family life where you get to enjoy smooth routines, and make loving family memories. Therefor my approach focuses exclusively on parent training. The parents I work with are able to become independently successful very quickly and I get to watch families create the home environment they've dreamed of.
